Osteopathy for Pregnant Women

Osteopathy for Pregnant Women

Are you experiencing uncomfortable aches and pains associated with pregnancy?

Our Osteopaths regularly treat pregnant women.   We have experience in preventing discomfort and managing pain.   In conjunction with your other health care providers, such as your doctor, midwife, or specialist, we can support you.  Osteopathy aims to get you back to moving well and feeling great.

 Individualized care

An initial osteopathic consultation for expectant mothers involves taking a full case history, a thorough assessment, and treatment where appropriate. Exercise or other movement or postural advice may be given specific to your individual concerns. All steps are taken to support the health and wellbeing for you and your unborn baby.

Osteopaths assist mums-to-be experiencing:

  • Back, neck, and body aches and pains
  • Pelvic instability including symphysis pubis dysfunction, sacroiliac joint issues
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Headache
  • Pelvic floor complaints
  • Sleep disturbance associated with aches and pains

Osteopathic care aims to support the natural changes to your body throughout pregnancy.

We want to help you feel your best prior to delivery, to minimize additional pain and discomfort.

Leaders In The Field

Our team have been involved in delivering lectures to osteopathic students at RMIT and Victoria Universities.  In addition, ongoing professional development is taught to Osteopaths and other health professions by Koru Osteopaths.

Ongoing education programs include teaching the hormonal, muscular, and ligament changes in pregnancy.  Understanding the underlying physical and emotional changes of pregnancy is important to be able to apply clinical skills appropriately and effectively.

It is very important that your practitioner is able to identify serious medical conditions during pregnancy is very important and we teach these skills also.

Appropriate exercise and lifestyle education are essential.  Not only do we teach students, we provide ongoing education to the broader health profession. If you are a health professional and would like to express interest in an upcoming program, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Our clinical founder Dr. Prue Eddie (Osteopath) has toured Australia speaking to a broader range of health care practitioners.

She has lectured to massage therapists, physiotherapists, and naturopaths on caring for women during pregnancy.  This program ran in 2018 for the Australian Traditional Medicine Society.  In addition, Prue ran continuing professional development for graduated Osteopaths and looks forward to doing this in the future.
