Only My Ego Was Bruised (feeling thankful)

Sometimes you need a little wake-up call!

Feeling busy? Here is a little story that may help you stop and smell the roses.

Life somehow got really got full on and fast!

Finally reappearing in my social circle after a year of clinic and home on repeat,

I’ve found myself feeling tired and borderline overwhelmed.

This all came to a sudden stop last Thursday lunchtime when a momentary lapse of concentration lead to one Big Bang

My list was long, it was lunchtime, I was hungry and needed to do the banking, go to Officeworks and get back for a meeting.

Jumping in the car, I realised I still had my face mask on and thought I’d jump out and pop it in the bin.

Unfortunately, I didn’t activate the park brake.

In slow motion, but not slow enough to change the outcome, I watched my car roll backwards downhill into the back of the clinic.

It collected the split system air conditioning unit and punctured 2 holes into the back of my car.

No one was hurt, just a bruised ego and a sense of disbelief that it happened.

car accident

What a great wake-up call that things have got a little too busy and it’s time to breathe, rest and reset.

It reminded me that habits are influenced by our subconscious patterns, our beliefs and our environment (plus probably lots more).

As post covid life is finding a new normal, I’d fallen back into some undesirable habits that I thought I’d left behind for good.

Things I’ve asked myself over the weekend to are:

  • What are you saying yes to (and therefore saying no to something else by default)
  • Why did this happen now?
  • How can I achieve better balance and not get caught up in the busyness of life?
  • What am I doing that’s not in alignment with how I want to live?
  • How can I prevent finding myself in a similar situation in the future?

Maybe you will benefit from asking yourself these questions without an accident or another wake-up call.

In other great news, my leg has recovered enough to go for a “real dive”. Some of you may have seen my Facebook live over the weekend from a boat off Pyramid Rock on Phillip Island!

If you missed it, you can watch a replay here.

What a gorgeous weekend we just had.

It was an opportunity for me to see the benefits of treatment and rehab for myself and the satisfaction of meeting a goal to get back in the water.

This is what we want for you, when you get an injury, a real recovery, and not finding yourself nursing an injury into the future.

It’s now 4 months since the break and I’m still not back to pre-injury strength, balance, or function.

This is normal and to be expected with this type of injury.

There is probably another couple of months to go, but I know it’s possible and making great progress.

The combination of fortnightly Osteo treatment plus strengthening 3x per week, balance exercises 2-3x per week, and cardio 5x per week is working a treat.

recovery

My aim is to be stronger than I was previously.

So I want to ask you, what’s your health goal?

Hope you’re having a great start to the week!
