Movement Matters To Create A Healthy Balanced Life
Yes, movement matters if you want to create a healthy, balanced life.
Who saw our Let’s Get Physical video that we posted the other day (on facebook)?
If you want a little bit of a laugh, you can check that out.
It’s so often when we talk about exercise, people have this vision, they’ve got to be lifting weights at the gym, or they’ve got to be going from Run.
They’re really sprinting and working as hard as they possibly can.
And look, these things I’m not going to deny it.
They’re good for your mental and your physical health and wellbeing, your cardiovascular system, the quality and the health of your Bones.
When we look at people who live for a long time, so live to over 100 years of age and they’re healthy and not on medications.
What we know is, is that people who move more, that doesn’t have to mean going to the gym (though it could).
People who move more during their day, live happier, healthier and longer lives.
And that’s what it’s all about.
So finding movement that you enjoy, now that could be dancing.
It could be gardening and taking care of these beautiful, lovely plants out in the garden.
The digging and the planting and getting your hands in the soil, that can be really hard work.
And so that can be a really fantastic physical workout if that’s what you’re into.
Maybe you’re into yoga and wonder if that can be good for your health.
Certainly you can develop fantastic flexibility as well as physical strength and some types of yoga are actually quite vigorous and get you to move really fast. Many people talk about it enhancing their body mind awareness and supporting their mental and emotional well-being too.
So something like a Ashtanga yoga, is quite physically demanding and quite aerobic.
It can make you get a bit of a puff, which probably isn’t what yoga is known for.
Lots of people do that sort of slower flow or holding posture types of yoga such as yin or hatha.
They’re certainly not as physically exertive.
But the point that I’m making is, is that if you want to be healthier, moving more in your day is a great way to do it.
Moving with consciousness.
So if you’re doing exercise or some type of physical activity, you’re going to perform it better.
If you are really engaged with what your body is doing at that particular time, you will likely be more effective and get better results.
So if you’re going for a walk, it’s good to really get into the walk and feel your body moving.
You may potentially find yourself moving a little bit faster. Alternatively you may experience a little bit more relaxation, turning your mind off.
That way, you’re going to get some of the physical benefits, but also some of those mental benefits as well.
So key things for movement include; enjoying moving, moving more and if you can track the volume, intensity and regularity of movement..
And, and the last one too, is to get different of movement during your day.
Get a variety of movement in your day
So having a good combination between moving fast, a bit of bendy, stretchy type things (flexibility),things that help to increase our strength, things that help us to be conscious of and make changes to our breathing can be really helpful.
And I feel like I’ve missed one that I wanted to talk about, whatever it is.
It doesn’t matter right now, the keys we want to move more, sit less.
Sometimes people have talked about sitting is the new smoking.
It’s really bad for our health.
Get up, get some movement, because it matters and have a great day.
