5 ways to avoid the Post Christmas Belly!!!
Don’t gain weight this Christmas
Everyone loves the holiday season, the socialising and celebrating that the year is over, some well deserved down time and enjoying some of our favourite treats. It is easy to fall into the trap of over-indulgence, only to feel deflated and frustrated with our clothes feeling tight, waking up with a hangover or a few extra kg’s on the scales. Follow our simple steps to enjoy this years celebratory season.
Be designated Driver
It is the time to be jolly, and as Australian’s, we know how to drink but did you know that 2 beers has the same amount of calories as 2-3 hamburgers. Now thats a meal! So imagine this 3 course Xmas lunch and add couple of hamburgers on top of that! Now thats full!
So this is an obvious one.. if you are designated driver you can’t (shouldn’t) drink so therefore you won’t consume as many calories. You will thank yourself the next day!!
Don’t eat the nibbles
Xmas lunch and or dinner is usually 3 courses so do your self a favour don’t eat the nibbles pre meal. They are unnecessary hospitable fillers that trap you at the front door… as you walk in there is a bowl of home made gingerbread, some shortbread and a cheese platter. STOP put your hand down, back away slowly. In the near future you will be thanking me at you munch down on the 3rd course of Lunch.
Buff the Buffet
Pick up the smallest plate. You heard me the smallest!
The Buffet is a trick the abundance of food is over whelming and your mouth is watering. There’s Aunty Jills crunchy salad, Grandma’s juicy roast and the potatoes look so crisp and delicious. You just want to try everything and before you know it your plate is a mound of more food and yes your eyes are defiantly bigger than your belly. So do your interjection a favour and pick the smallest plate, only grab your favourites and if your still hungry you know there will always be dessert!!
Don’t Nap… LAP!
After your massive lunch (which hopefully you portion controlled with a small plate) its always time for a nap. The “carb-coma” some may say. But I say NO WAY! Push through the urge to nap and go do some laps. Walking with burn the carbs, fats and sugars. It will bring a new spring to your step. Start slow and work that walk.
Double your drinks!
I’m sorry to say this doesn’t mean free reign at the bar if you’re not driving, what we mean is, have an extra glass of water between every other drink or between courses of food. This way, not only will you stay hydrated, you will feel fuller and more satisfied and you will be far less likely to overindulge.
Hope you are feeling you can enjoy the holiday season with the satisfaction that you will be on track to start the new year feeling well and fabulous.
