In depth consultationsA consultation involves discussing your current complaint and obtaining your medical history. Detailed assessment is performed, involving performing movements and observing posture. Further in depth testing may be appropriate in some circumstances. This may include tests such as an abdominal examination, or checking for signs of nerve impingement, such as reflex testing. A diagnosis of your back pain will be discussed and an appropriate individualised action plan will be tailored to your needs.
We formulate a clear individualised planWe will deliver a personalised specific treatment plan to clearly communicate what’s wrong. Following on, we will discuss how long we anticipate for recovery and what else can be done to help. This may include advice on exercises, dietary or lifestyle factors that may make an impact. Treatment involves using a variety of hands on technique. The best approach will vary depending on your age, health status and specific issue. The approach used may vary at different appointments. This will be according to your individual needs and your response to previous treatment.
It’s important to establish a diagnosisSciatica is a common term used by the community to describe their pain. It is actually a symptom, but there are many causes. It is therefore important we establish a diagnosis before we treat you. Research supports the use of Osteopathy for the treatment of low back pain. This approach is becoming more accepted and well known in the wider medical community.
Investigations and referralsOsteopaths understand and can identify more serious causes of back pain. In some circumstances you may need specialist care and we undergo ongoing training to differentiate what type of care you need. In a small number of circumstances, we refer for investigations, such asn an x-ray, MRI or another healthcare provider.
